Challenge
Interwell was involved in a 10-well Light Well Intervention Vessel (LWIV) campaign for an offshore project in Spain. The primary objective was to support the upfront pre-phase Plug & Abandonment (P&A) operations in preparation for the permanent P&A of the wells from a rig. A couple of the wells were also candidates for Through Tubing Abandonment (TTA) directly from the LWIV.
The requirement was to install a Retrievable Bridge Plug (RBP) product below the production packer wherever possible. However, when well conditions made this unfeasible, the RBPs had to be set as deep as possible above the production packer. Additionally, contingency plans were necessary for shallow-set RBPs to ensure operational flexibility throughout the campaign.
The varying well conditions and the client’s additional QA/QC requirements added another layer of complexity, all of which had to be managed and mobilised from the UK.
Solution
Interwell provided a comprehensive package of RBP solutions to meet the diverse requirements of the 10-well LWIV campaign, ensuring that all operational objectives were achieved despite the varying well conditions.
Before the installation of the RBPs, Interwell supplied P/T Memory Gauges were utilised during the drift runs to record temperature and pressure, confirming that the well conditions were suitable for the RBPs to be set at the necessary depth.
Throughout the campaign, a total of 11 RBPs, including Interwell’s ME, HPHT, HEX, and THEX products, were successfully installed, achieving a 100% run record. This success not only demonstrated Interwell’s operational excellence but also underscored the high levels of service quality delivered. The operations were effectively mobilised and managed from the UK, highlighting Interwell’s commitment to seamless project execution.
Value Created
Interwell’s involvement in the 10-well LWIV campaign resulted in significant value creation. By successfully installing 11 Retrievable Bridge Plugs (RBP) with a 100% run record, Interwell not only demonstrated its operational expertise but also minimised potential downtime and maximised efficiency for the client.
The comprehensive package of RBP solutions provided flexibility in addressing varying well conditions, enabling us to support the project without any delays to timelines.
